APPLE PICKING
About the activity
LAST CHANCE TO PICK APPLES
The time has come for a final harvest before the official closure of the island's orchard, which will take place this Saturday, September 27th at 5pm.

Only three days left for apple picking:
Thursday, September 25: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, September 26: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, September 27: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.!

Don't forget to bring your reusable bags!
The quantity of apples is decreasing, but there are still plenty of beautiful apples to harvest from the ground and from the tops of the trees. Don't hesitate to use the ladders provided!

Due to the anticipated high demand, a free shuttle service is offered to get to Saint-Bernard Island, accessible from the park-and-ride lot located near 149 Notre-Dame Street North.

Nearly fifteen varieties will be offered until resources run out: McIntosh, Cortland, Lobo, Liberty, Eden, Delicious, Spartan, Jonafree, Empire, and the famous Honeycrisp, among others! The orchard is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until resources run out.

A one-of-a-kind organic orchard!

A regional natural and cultural heritage site, île Saint-Bernard was inhabited between 1765 and 2011 by the Grey Nuns, a religious congregation founded by Marguerite D’Youville. Under the motto “protect life in all its forms,” these nuns established an orchard and a small dairy farm, among other things. Since then, the Saint-Bernard Island orchard has been certified organic by Ecocert Canada, and rigorous work procedures have been implemented to ensure the growth of the trees and the quality of their fruit.

ORCHARD CERTIFIED AS ORGANIC BY ECOCERT CANADA

Over the past months, meticulous work has been done to ensure proper apple tree growth and great fruit quality. Rather than using chemicals, more “natural” methods are being applied and have resulted in exceptional yields in the orchard. An agronomist specialized in organic farming is lending her expertise to the team during this undertaking.
