About the activity

This fall, go to île Saint-Bernard to meet Mother D'Youville who will take you back in time through her stories and anecdotes! Go back to the 18th century and discover the beginnings of the lordship of Châteauguay during a one-hour walk.

Regional natural and cultural heritage, île Saint-Bernard was inhabited, between 1765 and 2011, by the Grey Nuns, a religious congregation founded by Marguerite D’Youville. These nuns established an orchard and a small dairy farm there in addition to growing wheat, barley, oats, buckwheat and vegetables. Under the adage “protecting life in all its forms”, they have made it possible to conserve an exceptional natural territory, the refuge faunique Marguerite-D’Youville, now protected in perpetuity.
